The department occupies a prime slot as the only Research centre of the college. Department of Physics of this College has a proud tradition starting from 1964 with Prof K V. Mathew as the founder Head of the Department. The Department became a PG Department with the introduction of MSc Physics with Electronics as Specialization in 1996. The Department is expanding into frontier areas of research in material science and space physics with the faculty members undertaking sponsored research projects. Active research areas include Nano-magnetisms, Ferro-fluids, Doped Glasses, Solar cells, Thin Films and Ionosphere studies. It is also the first DST-FIST and SARD sponsored department of the college.
